LAST DAY FOR REGISTRATION: Make Your Own Journal

Enrollment is now closed.

Today (January 23, 2010) is the last day for registration into my Make Your Own Journal workshop for beginners. I will run it again in March/April but the cost will be $25 rather than $15.

I'm opening registration for the first in a series of bookbinding classes. It's called Make Your Own Journal: For Beginners to Bookbinding. It's a 3 week, 8 video class that will teach you 3 different styles of single signature books. We'll also discuss cover materials and collage covers together that will be sturdy enough to stand up to whatever you throw at it. These will be soft but stiff covers.
If you are interested you can paypal the $15 course fee below:

This page started out with paint in green and yellow smeared on the page with a credit card. The stamps came with the journal and are aptly of vegetables… I then glued in a photo of the 3 pills I’ve yet to take a copy of the bill for them, wrote in with a green sharpie.then added some gesso and ink with a q-tip. I scraped the inks with a piece of cardboard. I used my white jelly roll pen to write on the ink while it was still damp, so it would blend and smear a bit. The jelly roll did not want to write on the photo so I got out my deco art pen and sharpie pen to write on the photo. I also used the sharpie pen in 2 colors to add some details to the bill.

Recent SPAM comments

Hey all, I'm sorry for the recent influx of spam comments. I'm not sure how they are getting through the  word verification, they must be real people… I don't plan on withholding comments for approval I'd rather leave things as they are currently and delete as they come up. Just don't encourage the spammers by clicking the links. I'm usually able to delete them first thing in the morning. But man, how annoying!

Tonight I'll be working on the PDF file for the class and this weekend I'll open up registration for the first running of my first bookbinding class. YAY! I'm still up in the air about the price and length of time. I'm thinking a month for the time and keeping it low priced in the $20 range. This is a building block class.

Anyway sorry about the recent spam commentary and just tossing some ideas out before I head to work for the day!

New Items in my ArtFire Shop

For those of you interested I've listed 19 new items in my shop. Mostly journals but I spent some time cleaning my cabinet in the studio and found a box of more old stock from my former website. Sigh. I have a half dozen sets of 12 5.5 mm core Prang colored pencils, don't scoff they are great colored pencils that blend well and have a nice color pallet. I've got more of those but only packaged up 6 of the sets. I also found 6 sets of Palomino pencils in a hard plastic case with and eraser. These are the Cadillac of pencils. Pricey but lovely pencils. I also found a few sets of Palomino colored pencils, sets of 6.  I found a few full boxes of design pencils in 4 hardness so I packed them into sets of 4 for a steal of a price. I've put together an art journaling colored pencil and pencil set that I have yet to photograph but will go up sometime this week. You can see the new supply section here.

I also listed a bunch of basic pocket sized journals covered in leather for a very good price and some recycled journals covered in sign vinyl. All are filled with different papers, so you're best heading over to my artfire shop and seeing what is listed.

ALso while rooting around in my studio cupboards I found a lovely one of a kind baby blue leather covered journal. I made it quite a few years ago, before we moved, so 4 or 5 years ago. I had colored the leather and the paper in it is really nice for writing but would perform very well for an art journal too. I don't know why it ended up in the studio cupboard rather than the etsy and artfire stuff. BUt it's neat to find something I made years ago and still like it. The spine design is neat. I don't make them like this anymore. It takes hours of stitching and work to get the spine in a design like that.

Here are some pics of it:
